ChemieFlame Arresters for Industry Applications

Flame arrester

A flame arrester is a protective device fitted to the opening of enclosures or to the connecting pipe work of a system of enclosures and whose intended function is to allow flow but to prevent the transmission of flame.

In accordance to directive 94/9 EC all autonomous protective systems

(flame arresters) need a third party certificate.

Approved and certificated flame arresters have to be marked (see EN 12874 (12.2)) with the

ATEX certificate number issued from a notified body.

Installation of the right protective device such as flame arresters depends on certain conditions e.g.  temperature, operating pressure, pipe size, composition of used gas (explosion group) and distance between potential source of ignition and the flame arrester.

Therefore it is crucial to use flame arresters only for the conditions they have been designed and certified for.

We are offering a wide range of different flame arresters approved in accordance with

EN 12874 and ISO 16852:

End of line deflagration flame arresters:

Flame arrester which is fitted with one pipe connection only.

Inline deflagration flame arresters:

Flame arrester installed in a pipe - both sides are connected.

Inline deflagration flame arresters  are installed in case of flame propagation at subsonic velocity.

Inline detonation flame arresters:

Flame arrester installed in a pipe - both sides are connected.

Inline detonation flame arresters are installed in case of flame propagation at supersonic velocity.

End of line deflagration flame arrester approved for endurance burning of hydrocarbons and

E85 (E90) (ethanol / gasoline mixtures containing maximum 90Vol% ethanol):

Flame arrester approved for stabilized burning for an unspecified time.

Liquid product end of line detonation flame arrester:

Flame arrester designed to use the liquid product forming a liquid flame arrester to prevent flame transmission.

Pre-volume end of line flame arrester:

Flame arrester which prevents flame transmission from inside a vessel (volume) to the outside (atmosphere).
