Flame Arrester Elements

Flame arrester elements are also known as flame resistors, flame arresters, grates, flame traps, etc.

Under certain conditions a flame arrester element can extinguish a developing flame front. The flame is directed through small capillaries and cooled by contact with their metal surface.  Capillary height depends on the requirements (explosion group) that need to be fulfilled and needs to be adapted accordingly.

A flame arrester element is a flame extinguishing device that is mounted into a flame arrester. Diameter sizing, the choice of material, the determination of capillary height, and the number of flame arrester elements depend on what they are used for. Hence the design of a flame arrester element can only be determined through individual consultation and advice. It is thus impossible for an individual flame arrester element to be ATEX certified.
